A Message of Condolence to His Majesty King Charles III

To His Majesty King Charles III 

A Message of Condolence from the Lutheran Church in Great Britain. 

Your Majesty, it is with deep sorrow we received the message of the death of your Mother, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on Thursday the 8th of September. 

Since then, we have followed the week of mourning both locally in our congregations and in the national media. We join in the great choir of thanksgiving for the way The Queen has been a dignified symbol of unity and hope not only for the people in Great Britain but also globally through her 70 years of reign. 

The LCiGB is a small and new Church, established in 1966 mainly by English-speaking congregations from the United States along with Lutheran refugees from Eastern Europe arriving in the U.K. as a result of WWII and the Cold War. Today we are an international church with members from around the world. 

Since 2014 we have enjoyed being in full fellowship with the Anglican Church through the Porvoo Communion, a practical sign of the unity we share in our faith in Jesus Christ, and to which the Queen so often referred in her speeches. For this we give thanks to God! 

We will continue to pray for Your Majesty, in the days ahead with the funeral and then the many challenges we all are facing in an uncertain world, remembering the wise words from your Mother in one of her famous Christmas speeches: 

“God sent into the world a unique person – neither a philosopher nor a general (important though they are) – but a Saviour, with the power to forgive!” ‘
