Taizé Pilgrimage 2026 – A Week of Prayer, Community and Renewal

From 18–26 July, members of the Council of Lutheran Churches Chaplaincy travelled to Taizé, France, joining thousands of young people and adults from around the world for a week of worship, reflection and Christian fellowship.

Taizé is an ecumenical monastic community known for its distinctive style of prayer, simple chants and commitment to reconciliation. Throughout the week, participants gathered each day for communal prayers in the Church of Reconciliation, shared meals, Bible reflections and small discussion groups with people from many different countries and church traditions.

The pilgrimage offered a valuable opportunity to step away from the busyness of everyday life and focus on faith, listening and community. Living simply alongside thousands of others reminded participants of the importance of hospitality, service and Christian unity.

As well as taking part in the daily rhythm of worship, the group enjoyed meeting Christians from across the world, exchanging stories of faith and experiencing the unique atmosphere that has made Taizé a place of pilgrimage for generations.

Many returned home refreshed and encouraged, carrying with them new friendships, renewed hope and inspiration for their own churches and communities. The experience served as a reminder that, despite our different languages, cultures and traditions, we are united in Christ.

We give thanks for everyone who took part in this year's pilgrimage and pray that the peace and spirit of Taizé will continue to inspire their lives and ministries in the months ahead.
