The Lutheran Church in Great Britain was founded on the 16th of April 1961 when the need for an overarching organisation for English language Lutheran ministry was recognised. A constitution was drafted and the name chosen at that time was the United Lutheran Synod in Great Britain. The founding congregations were St John’s Lutheran Church in London, Holy Trinity Lutheran Church at Hothorpe Hall, St Paul’s Lutheran Church in Corby and Augsburg Lutheran Church in High Wycombe.
