The 60th anniversary of the LCiGB

The Lutheran Church in Great Britain was founded on the 16th of April 1961 when the need for an overarching organisation for English language Lutheran ministry was recognised. A constitution was drafted and the name chosen at that time was the United Lutheran Synod in Great Britain. The founding congregations were St John’s Lutheran Church in London, Holy Trinity Lutheran Church at Hothorpe Hall, St Paul’s Lutheran Church in Corby and Augsburg Lutheran Church in High Wycombe. Representatives of these four congregations came together at 3.30pm on Sunday, 16 April 1961, for the Constituent Assembly at the Latvian Lutheran Church Hall in Corby.

The LCiGB will celebrate its 60th anniversary on 30 October 2021, where it all began in 1961—in Corby. The organising team is still looking for volunteers who would like to help with preparing the event. Also, if you have any of the history from the early days, please let us know.
