Two New Priests Ordained

On Saturday, September 23rd, 2023, the Lutheran Church in Great Britain celebrated the ordination of two new priests, Rebecca Daniel and Wilkins Tang at St. Anne’s Lutheran Church in London. Rebecca is a Student Chaplain at the Council of Lutheran Churches, and Wilkins has been an evangelist at the London Chinese Lutheran Church, leading the worship every Sunday in Cantonese. Pastor Wilkins will now serve as a pastor of the Cantonese speaking congregation, and pastor Rebecca will observe options to expand her ministry, especially among Tamil speakers, which is her native language. 

The ordination was lead by bishop Tor B Jørgensen and assisted by Dean Elīza Zikmane. The sermon was delivered by former General Secretary of the Lutheran World Federation, Rev Dr Martin Junge, based on Matthew 16:21-28 about the the Cross and self-denial.

Notably, the Palestinian Bishop Emeritus of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jordan and the Holy Land, and former LWF president, Rt Rev Dr Munib A. Younan was also present, as well as people from various countries within the global Lutheran community, including Rebecca’s parents from India. The LCiGB also received greetings Rebecca’s Mother Church in India – Rt Rev Dr A Christian Samraj, Bishop of Tranquebar & President of the Tamil Evangelical Lutheran Church (TELC) said, “Ms. Rebecca comes from a TELC background and her father, Rev. Daniel David, served for many years in TELC. We praise God and express our gratitude to you and the committee members for their decision to ordain her. I’m sure she will be a great asset and blessing to your church.”
