On Saturday, 23rd September, the Lutheran Church in Great Britain (LCiGB) Synod elected Rev Paulina Hławiczka-Trotman as its next bishop. Rev Paulina Hławiczka-Trotman, a 40-year-old originally from Southern Poland, is scheduled to be consecrated and installed on 20th January 2024 in Nottingham.

Rev Paulina Hławiczka-Trotman’s background is diverse and accomplished, with studies in Theology & Ethics and Opera with Acting in Warsaw. Before her ordination as a pastor in the LCiGB, she served as a Personal Assistant to a Major General and Military Bishop in the Polish Ministry of Defence and worked as a projects’ coordinator for the Polish Ecumenical Council.

She is actively involved in pastoral work and currently serves as a pastor at two English congregations: Trinity Leicester-Nottingham, St. Paul’s Corby, and the Polish congregation in London, Christ the King. She also holds positions as a Trustee of the LCiGB and as a chaplain at the multi-faith student’s chaplaincy at the University of Nottingham.

Rev Paulina Hławiczka-Trotman’s co-chairing of the LCiGB Racial Justice Core Group since the death of George Floyd demonstrates her commitment to addressing contemporary social and justice issues within the church.

Bishop Tor Berger Jørgensen, the outgoing leader of the LCiGB, congratulated Rev Paulina Hławiczka-Trotman on her election, expressing eagerness to collaborate in the transitional process leading up to her consecration in Liverpool next year.

In accordance with the LCiGB Rules and Regulations, the term of office for the Bishop shall be six years. After being elected, the Bishop is traditionally presented with the documents of Call and subsequently undergoes episcopal consecration and installation during a Service of Worship. After serving a six-year term, the Bishop can stand for re-election.
